On the subject of Chromosomes…

So. I write male characters. And I am a guuuurl. For as long as I can remember, I have been terrified of being told that my male characters read like they were written by a woman. To me, the biggest compliment anyone can give my writing is to think it was written by a guy, because to me that says that I succeeded in effectively portraying the characters, that they lived, breathed, and became something authentic.

Roll Me Over Slow

What can I say? I’m in love. Catherine asked me if I wanted to do Nano this year, and I immediately tried to think of an idea I could work on. Not my Historical, it’s too long and takes too much research… not EF, it’s just too much hassle. No. And then I thought, why not fall back on my very first novel? A long Epic Fantasy about outcasts finding a long lost race to save their world, it definitely suffers from ‘First Book-itis’, but I had planned to rewrite is as a fantasy murder mystery.

Except this time, thanks to a little prodding from Catherine… things are MUCH more interesting.

Ashun Ma!

Hear me.

Isn’t that what all of us writers want? To be heard? In my case it is. I collect themes and stories like a small child might go about collecting the scraps and bits and pieces he sees along the roadside. It’s funny what you can see if you’re really looking for it.

A little introduction to my works might be in order. I am – as yet – completely unpublished so long as one does not exactly count the work I have done for a computer game called ‘Academagia’. I specialise in two main areas: Historical Fiction and Fantasy. As of right now, I have written three full novels, one excessively long partial rewrite, and 79% of my current novel. I have dabbled in plays, screen plays, musicals, songs, poetry, and graphic novel scripts. But in the end my love and affection is commanded by two major canons.
